Financial Liability for Landfill Closure and Post-Closure Activities, City of Kawartha Lakes
UEM was retained by the City of Kawartha Lakes in 2001 to undertake an assessment of the City's financial liability for the landfill closure and post closure. The report is a requirement for public service accountability (PSAB). Since the initial study was completed, UEM has completed updates of this report every three years.
Tipping Fee Review, Haldimand County
As part of a comprehensive update of the Haldimand County Waste Management Master Plan, UEM was retained to undertake a review of the County waste disposal tipping fee structure. A survey of tipping fees in other Ontario municipalities was completed in support of the study. The review determined that the exiting tipping fee was insufficient to provide for long-term landfill operation, closure and post-closure costs. An implementation plan was developed to increase the tipping fee by 50% to meet the long-term requirements. The tipping fee study also examined the charges for other items received at the landfill that were not charged the specific per tonne disposal fee.
UEM was retained by an operator of a private construction and demolition (C&D) lanfill to complete the required financial assurance calculation is support of an application to expand the guage and capacity of the site.
